Make It Great: Final Projects

What's working:
A really good job exploring - there's a bunch of different approaches as opposed to reinventing the same idea over and over.
Something to think about:
Working in Illustrator can be great - the one thing that's a bit tough is that by nature things tend to look very clean. Considering the subject matter, you may want to try to add a bit of texture – something subtle that gives it a handmade/human look. It could be as simple as exporting this as a jpeg, bringing it into Photoshop and applying a filter to it. There are a lot of great inexpensive filter applications out there - look for Snapseed and CameraBag 2 for the Mac. Again, this is something to try and see if if you like what it does.

Nice color and division of space - they both reflect the mechanical / earthy aspect of the song that you used as a starting point.
Something to think about:
Not much - maybe consider moving the focal point a bit off center and higher on the page to make room for some secondary focal points. That would add a bit more visual interest. It would look like a multitude of layered delicate explosions or stars over great panorama.

Great font, great colors, executed perfectly.
Something to think about:
As we discussed in the crit, it's missing that one small element of pranksterism. Potential solutions - a little fire, some smoke – either of those elements would lessen the formality of the design as well. You were given a very tough logo to create with a lot of differing concepts to communicate.

Good use of composition and color to contrast the more formal and imposing Capitol Records building with the red buildings in the second triptych.
Something to think about:
Remember when you are butting images up together, new shapes are formed. It's another thing to consider as you compose. If you could also do a little photo manipulation to add some color to the bleached out sky that would enriched an already nice color palette.
